The closing parade of the giant catamarans will continue as originally scheduled on Saturday, March 31st in and around the Old Port in Marseilles. The "Three Sisters" will sail together, escorted by hundreds of sailing yachts.
The parade is planned to start at 1430 in the Vieux Port and should last until 1530, when the boats will leave harbour for a show of sails along the beaches, until about 1730.
This will be a big celebration Marseille style, this city with such a long sailing history.
Aboard Club Med, eight of the crew of 13 will be there for the celebrations. The others are already competing in other events. Their places on board will be taken by four members of the boat’s prep team.
Aboard Innovation Explorer, none of the crew wanted to miss the great day. They will all be there.
Aboard Team Adventure, 80% of the crew have said they will attend.
Both Team Legato and Warta Polpharma will have to cut through the slows of the Azores high pressure system.
Team Legato projected finish:
Team Legato - 'the Survivors' - working upwind
Bullimore: "At present we are pushing along into the North East Trades. It would be great to have the wind free us off by around 30 / 40 degrees, our speed would accelerate to around 20 knots, but that is just wishful thinking."
"We have pulled out a lead over the Polish boat of around 270 miles, which is all good stuff and a credit to the crew. However, we must continue to push all the way, and be careful. The winds looks far less certain closer to Gib' and we could lose this lead in a matter of hours. This race within The Race could yet finish up too close to call."
"It is forecast for the next couple of days to favor us. The weather north of the trade winds is less certain at this stage so we have to cross that bridge when it comes."
Warta Polpharma projected finish:
Those Fabulous Poles - gaining back on Team Legato
Warta Polpharma has gained back 60 miles on Team Legato in the last 24 hours, and has a substantially higher average speed (14.5 versus 9.9 knots).
It appears that they are no longer as concerned about the port hull, as the curing time that Multiplast had requested is over.
