The Ultimate Hull Flying Hobie16 [Print]   [Close]
picture taken just outside of Cape Town, South Africa

Special thank you's to Stephen de Klerk and his mom in South Africa.

From Steve's mom:
Thought you may like to see this. We have been having some wind here and Annie the girl I work with took this photo of a hobie PLUS trailer that was blown into a tree. She sent it to SA Sailing magazine hence the story below.

Extraction from a South African Sailing magazine.

The ultimate hull flying Hobie16 or the sad story of Guenevere.

She was swept up into the pine tree on a wild, blustery Somerset West winter's night ( just above Parel Vallei High School.) No damage was done to any houses in the area, but poor Guenevere, on a slight grass covered 'platform' on her owner's property, was lifted, trailer and all, to her high perch, leaving her friend, a Hobie 14, snug on the ground, not having moved an inch.

Her owner phoned the fire brigade - "Do you still remove cats from trees?" he asked? Alas, this cat they could not, but they secured her, not to cause damage to the neighour's house. Eventually she was removed by cable, sadly damaged beyond repair, never to fly a hull over the False Bay seas again.

Pithy remark: "Oh, I see your wife tried to park your boat!"

News as it happens...
