8:22 PM Mike Walker, Team Manager:
The team had a good start from 16th position and a 1 minute penalty on the leaders. Most teams tacked immediately to the beach Reigh and Scott headed off shore a short way. They where the last to tack back towards the beach, and it paid. They reemerged picking off at least six boats within the first few minutes. 80 tacks later (see the GPS trace), and 9 + hours later, the team emerged in 7th place for this leg. This leg was like sailing 4 regatta's in one day. Scott's quote for the leg "do we have to tack again" Reigh's quote for the day " are we there yet..." Alexander's on the Bay finished at 7:23 PM, after 09:23 on the water, Team Dinght Shop arrived in 7th place at 7:39 PM, only 16 minutes later, with at time of 9:39 on the water. The finishes was very close, with all but one of the teams finishing within 41 minutes of the leader. Team Dinghy Shop holds onto 7th place, with good potential to capture 6th from LexisNexis. The next leg is from Atlantic Beach, NC to the the famous Cape Hatteras, NC. Hatteras view from the lighthouse Thanks to those that have contributed to the Replace the Mast fund. Everyone's support has been a great boost to the team. Mike Walker, Team Manager It is 12:30 PM, I'm at a place called Top Sail Beach about 15 miles from the start. Winds are maybe 5 or 6 from the north, northeast. I see Team Alexander in the lead, followed by Tommy Bahama, followed by Team Castrol, then Guidant then us (Team Dinghy Shop). They are all playing the shore lifts. They're in real tight. But there is one guy I think off a couple of miles I think but I can't make it out through the haze to see who it could be. |
