A short update from Friday morning. At this hotel in Hatteras, there is only one phone line available for laptops to dial in and it is located in the hotel office.

The team arrived quite late last night. The wind never got about 5 knots for most of the day for any length of time. Inspection of the Garmin GPS showed that they travelled 100 nautical miles over the course of the day and the 15 hour and 49 minute leg. The straight line distance is 81.3 NM. It was upwind most of the way. I will pass one the GPS tracks to www.cat-alist.com later tonight.

Channel 3 was onsite most of the day and provided 2 live updates. Even with no boats on the beach at 11 PM, they put together a great news package.

The team arrived about 2 AM and was immediately served a hot dinner and put to bed. Today, the start is still at 10 AM. No rest for the weary. It is night like this the put the test to the shore crews. Today we drive to Kill Devil Hills. The team makes the dangerous rounding of Cape Hatteras. As I write this, the wind looks pretty light, so we don't expect it to be much of a problem.

Scott Macdonald's girl friend and his parents arrived here yesterday as well to provide support to the team. They made the long trip from Vancouver. Anne hadn't slept in over 36 hours, and once Scott arrived, she wisked him away to her hotel room.
