Leg 12: It is 8 PM, and they are 23 miles from the finish, conditions are calm. It shall be another long night. Two teams are out of the race.

Leg 12 - Cape Hatteras, NC to Kill Devin Hills, NC - 65.1 statute miles.
Estimated arrival time: 2-5 PM.

It is 8 PM, and they are 23 miles from the finish, consitions are calm. It shall me another long night. Two teams are out: Keysailing and Redhook Ale.

Message from the Race Director, 5:55 PM
"Received word from Redhook that they were ashore on Hatteras Island; sustained boat damage coming ashore and that they have withdrawn from the race."

Message from the Race Director, 5:30 PM
"Key Sailing came ashore at Avon Village on Hatteras Island at 5:00 PM; sustained boat damage and has withdrawn from the race. At 5:30 PM, race helicopter will be airborne and will provide a boat positions report at approximately 6:00 PM."

Cape Hatteras and Diamond Shoals
This area is renowned for unexpected geysers that squirt 30 to 50 in the air for no apparent reason that can appear anywhere at any time. They are a result of two major ocean currents bashing heads on this shoal area. Locals call them "piss-ups."
