12:02 AM Saturday - Mike Walker, Team Manager:
Wow, 2 very long legs in a row.

This morning dawned with some light winds, but it did look promising. We started in 11th position, which put us in a good start position in the second row. Kevin pushed Team Dinghy Shop through the first set of breakers while Scott paddled the boat out through the 2nd set.

At Cape Haterus, we rounded in 10th place right beside Lexus Nexus (see the Worrell web page for the Leg 12 Start pictures). Notice the crowd of spectators on the beach. They where cheering loud enough for the races to hear them over the surf. A great moral boaster.

At 5 PM, there was no sign of them at the finish. John Hopper (Guident) Ellie Hay (Pyacht Women) drove up the coast and found the fleet at 23 miles out at 8 PM just before sunset. The fleet was pretty closely spaced and seemed to be moving at about 6 knots at that time. Team Dinghy Shop was 9th at that point.

At 9:20 PM, Reigh called on the cell phone to tell me he was only 5 miles out. They had a good downwind run managing to travel 18 miles in 80 minutes. At this point, the wind totally died.

Next call, the GPS indicated 20 minutes from the finish, and shortly after that Guident showed up coming out of the mist. The surf was still a concern and some of the finishers had an amazing surf to the beach, and almost to the finish line. At that point, one team member is allowed on the surf side of the finish line to help bring the boat in. Once the boat crossed the finish line, anyone can help, and tonight, no less that 8 people would be there to help bring the boat up the beach.

In the end, Team Dinghy Shop blazed to a 4th place finish and moved into 6th place overall!

Tomorrow brings the last day of the Worrell 1000 and the final leg to Virginia Beach.
