05/08/2001 - Leg 3: cat-alist.com following Team Dinghy Shop

Mike Walker: "Words and photos do not do justice to what we have seen today". Finishers are Coming in Now. Team Dinghy Shop has moved up to third place overall!

3:28 PM: Alexander's on the Bay has arrived. Team Fully Involved 14 minutes behind.

4:25 PM - Team Dinghy Shop: Reigh called in, they are okay, coming in now.

We're still waiting on:

4:44 PM - Team Dinghy Shop has just arrived, followed by Outer Banks by one second!

Now we are waiting on Team Guidant.

Team Guidant arrived at 5:36:04 PM, so everyone is in now.

Team Dinghy Shop has moved up to third place overall!

6:15 PM, Reigh North: "We picked a hole in the surf and went for it, but we had no idea there was this much carnage on the surf. When we let off to go downwind, we could only see three other boats."

"At one point we were in the lead, then we dumped, dumped three times today, we were then caught up, then others dumped, and we caught up again (not including the roll at the finish). It was blowing a good 35 knots once we got out there. There was a couple of good squall lines that cam through, all we could do is hang on."

"Coming into the finish, we got sideways in the surf, and a wave rolled us over. I had a little fun under the boat, I got tangled up but shook myself clear. Oh well, it happens. They dragged the boat over the finish line in pieces, just ahead of Outer Banks."

"Boat Status- busted mast, busted up mainsail, haven't looked at the jib yet, hulls and boat structure is ok."

It is now official, the race committee has deemed that there is a 2 hour penalty plus time of last boat, Guidant, which was 07:36:04 for the boats that did not sail the course today.
