More to come....

10:49 AM, Mike Walker on Monday's leg:
The night leg from Isle of Palms to Myrtle Beach was one very long leg, not in distance, but in time.

Backing up to the start, we heard from the helicopter that they where one of the lead boats when the sun set, and that through the night, they where in good shape. The moon didn't come up until 3 AM, but once it was up, the seeing was very good. They could see other boats around them, including the shrimping boats. Nothing broke and they did manage a maximum boat speed of 13 knots through the night, and actually sailed 82.2 nautical miles.

The team was doing very well, but managed to be on the wrong side of the wind at 6 AM. They phoned me from the boat and told me that they where 8 nm out. At that time, there was 2 boats on the beach, so I expected them within the hour. 2 and 1/2 hours later, they showed up. The major delay was due the wind was light and it did shift. I have attached a map with the last part of the GPS track. The purple is the rhumb line, and the white dotted line is the actual track.

Our finish for this leg is a 12th, and we have now dropped to 5th place. Considering the players in this came, 5th is still a very presentable position to be in.

The team did have a very serious game of mini-put late last night. I won't pass on who won, but I will say that it is dangerous to be standing in front of Kevin when he tees off. :-)

As I write this, they have already left for Wrightsville Beach and the home of Blockcade Runner (Randy Smyth's sponsor). A wonderful hotel to visit. We say goodbye to 75,000 Harley Davidson's and move on to a quiet little town.
